Tottespiel's Songs from an Evening at Malakuth's

Post by Ogregrim »

Having been sent an invitation to attend a soiree at the mansion of the Notorious and Noteworthy Malakuth Tabuir, Tottespiel found that his invitation had proved to be less an honour, but rather a means by which the extravagant Drow Mage might further impress his guests with yet another rare novelty. One armed Drow Bards, it seems are in short supply. And to have one that can compose upon command, seemed all the more entertaining for those gathered. It also swiftly seemed evident to the Bard, that by inviting him as a guest, the host had managed to escape the unpleasantness of having to pay him for his performance.

As the evening progressed, Tottespiel found himself repeatedly snubbed, and quickly came to the conclusion that he was, in fact, no guest at all, but rather just another one of Malakuth's gauche displays, recieving no more consideration than that given to his slaves and servants.

His only recourse, as he saw it, if he desired retaliation was to remain aloof and unmoved by the extravagances of his hosts. When the time came, and the piece de' resistance of the evening was presented, Tottespiel politely declined to partake, and took his leave early, allowing the others to be dazzled if they chose, but making it quite clear that he was less than impressed.

In the interests of making available to all, that which the Elite of Skullport might have deigned to reserve strictly for their own pleasure and amusement, the songs composed that evening shall be herein transcribed for all to view. And snobbery be damned!
It has been my experience that, given the opportunity, people will in the end do what they truly desired to do in the beginning. Save time, let them, then they have only themselves to blame or you to thank.

Opening Tribute to the Distinguished Host.

Post by Ogregrim »

Who might have known or ever guessed,
That one so humble might be blessed,
To come to these halls as a guest,
To sing for Malakuth?

And then one wonders what to sing,
What praise sufficient might one bring,
To this man who has everything?
And so I give the truth.

No finer venue have I found,
Than here upon the gracefull grounds,
Where lovliness and art abounds,
To set the soul at ease.

Nor yet, a nobler audience,
Gifted with such elegance,
To draw the singer swiftly hence,
In hopes his songs may please.

So let the laughter ring and peal,
And here and now may all reveal,
Their shining wit and fair appeal,
That our host be well served.

For such an honour is so rare,
To come in peace, fond times to share,
That merriment should fill the air,
T'Is more than I deserve.
It has been my experience that, given the opportunity, people will in the end do what they truly desired to do in the beginning. Save time, let them, then they have only themselves to blame or you to thank.

A Bawdy Song, for a Lackluster Crowd

Post by Ogregrim »

Oh, come let us tarry and dally and play,
There are too few hours for pleasure each day,
And when I'm with you they do swift pass away,
So here, in our soft bed, my dear, let us stay.

There so many nice things here we could do,
I'm certain you know a new love trick or two,
So in the moments of ours let's pursue,
The chance that I might teach a few more to you.

Here 'neath the sheets there are joys we might bare,
You bend like that here, and I'll stand over there,
Or if you prefer, I can tie back my hair,
And we can explore what two lovers may share.

And so my dear, love, let us both jolly be,
I'll do this for you, if you'll do that for me,
And linger all day in our shared company,
That our time may thus pass all the more merrily!
It has been my experience that, given the opportunity, people will in the end do what they truly desired to do in the beginning. Save time, let them, then they have only themselves to blame or you to thank.

A Toast from a Bard Who's Been Given No Drink

Post by Ogregrim »

Let the wine flow, Let the Dancing begin,
That joy may be shared by all gathered herein,
The hours may gather, let them be ignored,
For there is wine aplenty in these cellars stored.
It has been my experience that, given the opportunity, people will in the end do what they truly desired to do in the beginning. Save time, let them, then they have only themselves to blame or you to thank.

Upon Drawing the Card of Judgement

Post by Ogregrim »

When horns and trumpets resounding blast,
And the final die is gently cast,
When stripped away this gauzy guise,
That hides the truth from open eyes,

When that which ones was well concealed,
To those who would know be revealed,
And judge aright what all is worth,
May those here gathered yet find mirth.

Fear not to know our own true names,
And look beyond the petty games,
In which we are preoccupied,
But know, and smile more satisfied.

For thought we may ourselves decieve,
In what we do and do not believe,
There is no need to fear or shun,
What ever we were since time had begun

To shape our hearts and mold our minds
That to be better we'd be inclined,
And shine as bright as any star,
When we judge aright who we truly are.

So saying, I bid you, be as you are,
For that is more interesting to all, by far
For it is clear that we shall find:
Those who mind, don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
It has been my experience that, given the opportunity, people will in the end do what they truly desired to do in the beginning. Save time, let them, then they have only themselves to blame or you to thank.

Upon the Request to Sing of His Home

Post by Ogregrim »

Home? An interesting choice, as I have none, but I shall endeavour all the same.

Where may I a welcome find?
And who shall greet me there?
I who long have travelled blind,
Swept on by the drifting air.

Was ever there a place for me
Beneath the mountain's dome?
At what place might I rest easily,
And knowing, name it Home?

No halls, nor walls might hold that name,
Nor palace broad and grand.
No fireside with dancing flame,
No near, nor distand land.

For whither go my lover's feet,
'Cross sand, or ocean's foam
But by her side am I complete,
And there shall I call home.

No place can hold my memory,
No other could I abide,
No place hold my tranquility,
But that I be by her side.

And so I wait and pass the days,
In what means I may call my own,
For till she comes and with me stays,
I have no other home.

*glances at Willow with a sad smile*

Upon Drawing the Ace of Chalices

Post by Ogregrim »

Let me drink from my Lover's cup,
And drink from it full deep.
For wine hath filled her all well up,
I must drain her, that she may sleep.

A lovely cup my lover has,
And filled right to the brim,
To drink from it is all I ask,
Till my senses all grow dim.

And heady is my lover's wine,
When press'd against my tongue,
As ever she drinks deep of mine,
Till all pleasure from it be wrung.

Then she smiles and holds her cup to me,
That it I may refill,
And drink again to ecstasy
As every I gladly will.

So let the wine flow freely now,
Let us drink, and drink again,
I'll drink as deep as she will allow,
And not rest until then!
It has been my experience that, given the opportunity, people will in the end do what they truly desired to do in the beginning. Save time, let them, then they have only themselves to blame or you to thank.

As to the Missing Song of the Dance

Post by Ogregrim »

There was also a song asked, to which those who gathered might dance.
It was, however cut short by the Host, who found the interruption less important than the introduction of his newly arrived nephew to those there gathered.
As he would not see fit to hear it out, I will not subject you to an incomplete song. If you wish to know of it, I would recommend you ask some of the others who were there gathered what they recall of it. That is if they were no too busy fawning over the gathered elite to pay attention.

And Now a Word From Ogregrim, Tottespiel Be Damned

Post by Ogregrim »

And Finally, now that the Bard has spent himself and his bile, I would dearly like to add, that in fact, much credit and praise is due to DM Solgen for arranging this most elabourate and entertaining event. It was a dazzling display, and an incredibly ambitious effort in which he acquitted himself most admirably. While I cannot report upon the flavour or the quality of the food and wine, I have been assured by others that it was an experience to remember. As to the entertainment, it was indeed a spectacle, and a catered to a wide variety of tastes. If any would care to cast judgement upon it, I might add, that the hosts were very much themselves in their tastes, and catered to others as they thought befitting the audience and their station might merit.

Very well done, Solgen. It was truly an entertaining evening to remember, and I hope the first of many more to come.
