Saved from the Waterdeep forum2: Only Eight Returned

Post by Ladellon »

Former title: Only Eight Returned (in Gaeden's honor)

Brought to you by Gaeden von Trapp and the von Trapp Family Singers:

(The event that inspired this ditty was begging to be immortalized in verse)

Eight brave lads and lasses
Who’d passed a trial by fire
Found themselves deep within a crypt -
A situation dire.

Eight brave lads and lasses,
Confused and off their mark,
Were set to dart off aimlessly
When they heard through the dark:

“Hold, by gods! You fools come here!
Who’s wandering off alone?
We must regroup and band our force
To last in the unknown!”

Fear of death was thrust aside
And apprehension spurned.
Eight went down to face the threat
But only eight returned!
Yes, only eight returned!

Eight brave lads and lasses,
Some shaking in mock fear,
Called nearly with a single voice,
“We must get out of here.”

Eight brave lads and lasses
Began to search around
But strayed not far before they heard
This reoccurring sound:

“Hold, by gods! You fools come here!
Who’s wandering off alone?
If you insist on risking death
You’ll do so on your own!”

Fear of death was thrust aside
And apprehension spurned.
Eight went down to face the threat
But only eight returned!
Yes, only eight returned!

Eight brave lads and lasses,
Some disregarding shouts,
Were finally on the move to seek
A path that would lead out.

Eight brave lads and lasses
Soon met up with undead
And while most craved to rout the fiends
They heard this shout instead:

“Run, by gods! You fools retreat!
These skeletons are grim!
We must return in greater force -
They’ll rend us limb from limb!

Fear of death was thrust aside
And apprehension spurned.
Eight went down to face the threat
But only eight returned!
Yes, only eight returned!

Eight brave lads and lasses
Instead did face their foes
And effortlessly won the day
With merely seven blows.

Eight brave lads and lasses,
One in complete chagrin,
Emerged from that horrific tomb
To boast their narrow win:

“Our steadfastness was tested
Within a burial cave.
When told to run, we held our ground
And now we’re known as brave!

Fear of death was thrust aside
And apprehension spurned.
Eight went down to face the threat
But only eight returned!
Yes, only eight returned!

Hey man, Bob the Balor is down there!! ;) Or well, he used to be... any confirmation on the "coffee shop at the end of the crypt", i've been wondering if thats still around. Great stuff Laddy.
There's a place I like to hide
A doorway that I run through in the night
Relax child, you were there
But only didn't realize and you were scared
It's a place where you will learn
To face your fears, retrace the years
And ride the whims of your mind
