If you want to thank a DM, thank them, like many people have said. When I used to DM, having people actually talk about the events I did IC, send my "thank you"'s over tells, and generally take an interest, was the reward.
People DM because they are storytellers. The most flattering thing you can do for them is to be excited and involved with the tale.

Re: Rewarding DMs
$22 for a mug seems steep... unless four or five factionmates split the cost, and maybe customized it a little further, not necessarily from the cafepress site. "DM JOE, THANKS FOR THE BEHOLDER!" or some other inside joke, hey, treasured heirloom.

Then, after six months a price will be agreed upon. Oh, and rest assured no one you know will be able to afford it. Alternatively, it will be nerfed to a single use coffee mug that you can afford.
Talk less. Listen more.

This thread has be hijacked from me stirring the pot to a conversation about mug pricing standards!
....There is NO WAY I would buy a single use mug.. it would at least have to have charges and be rechargable.

What about one just for RP purposes, without any technical use?

Re: Rewarding DMs
I was actually referring to a topic started a year or three ago along the same lines, where it was suggested that DMs should get xXP for building an area, yXP for creating an NPC, and so on.Regas wrote:Just so I'm clear on this Nick, what I'm suggesting are one off events and temporary pcs, so starting at 5th level (or 11th for that matter) would not mean getting to play 5th level pcs in alfa live.
I pointed out that a builder like indio would be eligible to start a PC at around level 5 or 6 and thought that would be a bit excessive.
I still don't think my idea of giving DMs the equivalent of an RPXP script reward to their PC is such a silly idea if we are to looking at rewarding DMs. It's not going to make people join the DM ranks for the XP, because they can get earn just as much standing around chatting with other characters in game as they would get for DMing the same amount of time. And either way, ~1.7XP/IG hour is not going to break the bank.
But I'm unlikely to take up the mantle of DM on either of the current two servers any time soon, so it's not really an issue close to my heart.

I resent your flawed representation of our work. Everyone knows that it'd be nine months, minimum.Mick wrote:Then, after six months a price will be agreed upon. The power of concealment lies in revelation.
