Daily Trumpet - Fire in the Docks District

Post by ayergo »

There were several reports of a fire in a house that was under renovation in the Docks Ward just West of the Adventurer's Quarters. It has had problems with squatters in the recent past, but was being cleared for use by its owner. It is believed the fire started in the laboratory of the gnomish doctor, Luther, who lived there and it quickly spread to the rest of the house.

Three casualties were reported, the gnome Luther, the elf Tahal, and an elderly housekeeper Alberta.
There's a place I like to hide
A doorway that I run through in the night
Relax child, you were there
But only didn't realize and you were scared
It's a place where you will learn
To face your fears, retrace the years
And ride the whims of your mind

Aiden hears the screams of "fire" and gets dressed as fast as he can. He run out of Helm's Hall, where he has been staying and helping a sick child, as fast as his leg will allow. He can see the smoke billowing in the distance and he tries to run faster and his leg gives out sending him sprawling on the rough cobble stone street. He clambers to his feet as best he can and leaning over he places a hand on his left thigh. With a grimace he starts moving towards the heavy smoke. He sees the back of the Blue Mermaid and he can already feel the heat from the fire. Turning the corner his worst fears are brought to life. FQS is fully engulfed in flames. He see's people running back and forth with buckets of water and several mages casting spells at the inferno trying to put it out to no avail. The house just east and the one south start to smoke so the mages turn their spells towards them to keep them from igniting. He asks around if anyone was inside and some mention hearing screams when they first arrived but were unsure if it was the residents or just noise from the contents of the house. Aiden says a quick prayer to Kelemvor to keep his friends safe and starts aiding those helping.

Several hours later all that is left is a partial corner on the east side and a smoking crater. He cast a protection from elements on himself and helps the others search for bodies. After several hours of searching Everyone is ushered out to rest by the Watch. Aiden exhausted drops to his knees in the rubble and charred remains of the building basement and says a prayer to Kelemvor.

Kelemvor, Lord of the Dead, Judge of the Damned, our Lord, I , pray to thee for the strength to do thy bidding.
I thank Thee for all the blessings which have given me.
I ask that you watch over and guide those, if any there were killed in this fire.
Guide then to your presence and judge them by their hearts.
If you still have use for them send them back,
As they have proven they hold no love for the Undead.
As always I will keep your Commandments as your eternal servant.
For the glory of Kelemvor, Lord of the City of Judgement.

After the prayer, Aiden gets slowly to his feet. He limps back towards Helm Hall. He vows to do what he can to find any remains inside and give them a proper burial.

Aiden spends the next morning helping go through the ashes. He finds the charred remains of one close to where the front door was. He sighs and asks for help removing the body. Wrapping it up in a blanket, they cart it off to the City of the Dead. He prays to Kelemvor over the body and preforms the last rights to send the soul on to the City of Skulls.
Upset at himself for not being more of a help he returns to the crater and continues to help look, wonder all the while if that was one of his friends or someone else.

A shame, I rather liked them, Keryn thought as she read the news in the Safehaven where she sat the morning after her return from Daggerford.

She figured it would make sense to examine the wreckage and determine what research mishap had done Luther in before heading back to the Company where she would check in with Arryn before taking some time for her reverie.

She decided to hold onto her copy of The Daily Trumpet, so she neatly folded it and tucked it into her pack before setting off.
Currently laying the smackdown on Faerun as: Keryn Tel'Jora, who is XXX-TREME!!!.
Currently explaining the meaninglessness of it all as Vizian Nazyr.
Currently pointing out all other characters' shortcomings as Stephen the Archer.
